Belarus’ number one handball player Sergei Rutenko finishes professional career

The most successful Belarusian handball player of the last decade Sergei Rutenko has decided to finish his playing career. The athlete reported about his intention at the press conference in the morning on January 12.

Sergei Rutenko boasts six wins in the EHF Champions League as well as a record transfer fee during his move to Barcelona in 2009.

The Catalan club spent €1.2 million on the Belarusian handball player.

Sergei is 35 years old now, so he doesn’t exclude the idea of his return to handball. But not as a player, to be more precise.

Sergei Rutenko, the ex-captain of the Belarus men's national handball team:
We all understand what the most important thing for us is. It is health, a smile on the face of our loved ones, relatives and friends. It is the most important thing for me. If my experience in handball is in demand, I won’t quit the sport. It is another opportunity to communicate with people whom I understand perfectly and always glad to see.
