Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and German Gref, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank of Russia, met in Minsk on 12 January to discuss the further development of cooperation.
German Gref has been the head of this Russian financial institution since 2007.
Sberbank remains an undisputed leader of the Russian banking sector.
This company has representation offices in more than 20 countries, including Belarus.
Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus:
If, when working in Belarus, Mr Gref treats our partners, clients cooperating with the bank in the same way he treats those in Russia, we will never have problems, because I am very well aware of your position at the present moment in the Russian field of activity. I've heard a lot of good about Sberbank. I think your policy does not allow carrying out different policies here, in Belarus. I’m sorry for the tautology. Therefore, our meeting will be so pleasing. We can discuss many other issues, in addition to banking.
German Gref, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank of Russia:
We have outstripped all the five conditions by at least 1.5 times. Sberbank now is the biggest investor in the Belarusian economy. We have invested debt financing and direct investment in the amount of 10% of the GDP. Of course, this is also the result of our good cooperation and trust in you personally and in the republic.
Sberbank works very actively in the Belarusian market.
This is also the result of our good cooperation and trust. The program of preferential crediting of supplies of Belarusian equipment is gradually expanding. Projects in the industrial sector are also implemented. It concerns first of all the refining and mining industries and the energy sector.
