Belarus stands for competent discussion with Lithuania on the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Astravyets through relevant agencies, said the Foreign Ministry of Belarus on January 5 commenting on the appointment by Lithuania of a special ambassador for the Astravyets NPP.
Among such institutions are bodies involved in environmental protection, energy and economy.
Earlier, Lithuania repeatedly expressed concern about incidents on the construction site of the future Belarusian NPP in Astravyets (Ostrovets).
Dmitry Mironchik, foreign ministry spokesperson:
If the Lithuanian side needs a coordinator within the walls of the Foreign Ministry for a more effective dialogue with us, it is their right, and it can only be welcomed.
If this position is established only for the purpose of the further politicization of the issue, if they want to move discussions to international platforms, which often do not have any relation to nuclear issues or energy or environment... In this case, it is a rather counterproductive step.
