Timofei Kalachev: Level of Belarus' football championship is not growing

Timofei Kalachev, the best football player of Belarus 2016, has given an interview to the TV program Simple Questions with Egor Khrustalev.

Very often you can hear that in principle, Mother Nature did not give Belarus a number of athletes capable of competing at a good level. And we can't do anything about this. The same situation is in Lithuania, in small European countries. In general, is it only a rare stroke of luck or coincidence that can help us break into the elite?

Timofei Kalachev:
Of course, you're right. Of course, when such teams from smaller countries got into Euros, the same Latvia, it was a fantastic result for them. Or take Iceland. That is a true sensation. It is very difficult for Belarus to repeat it.

Unfortunately, the Belarusian football championship does not grow and interest in it does not increase.

There are many factors here. And the national team is very dependent on this too. It is very difficult for Belarus to enter a big top tournament, because football... All countries claim a place there, very large countries, and you can compete in a single game as we showed against France. You can hold them to a draw. But the qualification is one thing and to get into the tournament itself you need to play well in every game. It is very difficult to get there if you don't have that high level...

So the team average level is not high...

Timofei Kalachev:

Of course, but I believe that if we had a 2 or 3 or 4 players who played for top clubs, we would have much better chances to progress to top tournaments.

But at the moment there are no such players in our country.
