Minsk is becoming an increasingly popular place among foreigners wishing to celebrate New Year. Dozens of tourists from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, England and many other countries choose the capital of Belarus as a place to celebrate the New Year.
Sayyid is from Turkmenistan. He came to Minsk to celebrate the New Year. This will be his eighth birthday in the Belarus capital. However, he still does not forget traditions of his native country.
New Year is celebrated in Turkmenistan on March 1 with the advent of spring and the spring of prosperity. But traditions always remain. On the night of December 31 to January 1, we celebrate the European New Year. We light lanterns and let them into the sky.
In Minsk, Sayyid found his love.
I will meet another New Year's Eve with my girlfriend. She called me to her parents. For me it's an exciting time, we will celebrate a truly unforgettable New Year.
Our next heroes are Violetta and Leonid, natives of Latvia, but now living in the UK. The couple came to Minsk to celebrate New Year.
Immediately we were struck by the cleanliness of streets and well-groomed neighborhoods, so we love it here. We live in England and New Year is not celebrated there. They celebrate Christmas. And since Christmas is a family holiday, then, in principle, there are no special festivities there. Everyone is at home, with friends, families. But we wanted to celebrate New Year as we got used to. So we chose a place where you celebrate New Year in a big way, actively.
I remember that feeling when you run to the tree in the morning to look for Christmas gifts. I tried to come before my brother so that I could get more presents. In general, January 1 is some kind of friendly and family day.
In London, says Leonid, they celebrate Christmas in a big way.
From the end of November, they begin to decorate streets. They have very interesting Christmas markets, where you immerse yourself in a great atmosphere, where you can enjoy the same mulled wine, take a walk around the area and watch festivities. Everyone is buying gifts, everyone is talking. They have a magical mystery of the choice of turkey for Christmas dinner. They all talk about where to buy a turkey.
Violetta and Leonid already have a plan for the New Year's Eve.
Of course, we will go to the square and look at mass celebrations with fireworks.
Minsk tries to create all conditions for comfortable stay of foreign tourists. During the New Year holidays, you can hear audio tours in Russian and English languages on buses number 1 and number 100.
I wish all of us that 2017 is not so rich in all kinds of turmoil as it was during the outgoing year. I mean geopolitical or social turmoil. We would like it to be more calm and stable. So that people simply live peacefully and enjoy life. I think this is the most important thing.
I would like to wish to give your kids a little happiness, some fairy tale. And do not forget that if you have some relatives outside Belarus, please don't forget to send them a message. Even the smallest holiday card can give great pleasure.
