Belarus and the Irkutsk region have to find reserves to increase mutual trade, said President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the governor of the Russian region, Sergei Levchenko.
Turnover this year has fallen, especially against the backdrop of a record trade volume in 2015. There are all prerequisites to catch up. In the Palace of Independence, the parties identified several areas for possible enhanced cooperation - from agriculture to construction.
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
Trade is the foundation of any relationship. Economy is the foundation of any relationship. Whether we want it or not, we will have to find these reserves, they are in place. For successful implementation of the tasks set before the Irkutsk region we have proposed a greater use of our capabilities, our products and technologies - all that you need and are interested in. I think we have good prospects for cooperation in supply to you of Belarusian quarry trucks and other special equipment and loaders for coal deposits and other deposits. There are a lot of them in your region, more than in the rest of Russia. In addition, we are ready to supply to you agricultural, passenger and road-building machinery. We need to develop industrial cooperation, including between the enterprises of the military-industrial complex. We are willing to establish joint ventures in the region.
Sergei Levchenko, governor of the Irkutsk region of the Russian Federation:
This year, we will more than double supplies from your MAZ to the Irkutsk region. I hope that these are the same pieces of machinery your colleagues showed us yesterday: municipal vehicles, buses, trucks and ordinary trucks. We will need a lot of them, since your machinery running on gas is of a very high quality.
