Belarus to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 1.5m tons annually

Belarus intends to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by 1.5 million tons per year. Already at the beginning of 2017, the Belarus government will consider a plan of action for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Belarus ratified this international instrument in the field of environmental protection in September 2016. Among its main steps is reduction of energy costs in production and increase in forest lands.

Sergei Zavyalov, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus:
Greenhouse gases emissions should be equal to what is absorbed. We must understand that export products we make in Belarus must meet certain requirements. We must understand that these products must be made with a minimum waste of energy and according to new technologies, which means minimum impact on the environment and the climate.
