Great Marc Chagall had a three in Drawing. His record book was published by the National Historical Archives of Belarus. There was a five-point grading system in Belarus in the 20th century. Chagall didn’t have the highest grades. However, a future famous artist got a five for his behavior.
Denis Liseychikov, deputy head of the National Historical Archives of Belarus:
We usually think that if a person was getting a three or four as his grades, it was bad grades. However, these grades were good enough, because a three is a satisfactory grade. It meant that a person answered demands of a program and could easily go to the next form.
