The national football team of Belarus has won against Greece in a friendly match 1:0.
The meeting, held at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, has not caused much interest among Greek fans. The 34,000-capacity stands saw only about 2,000 fans coming to see the game.
In the first 10 minutes, the hosts owned the initiative, but could not succeed.
After that, Belarusians have become more active, with Sergei Politevich bringing Belarus a 1:0 lead in the 14th minute, after a perfectly executed free-kick.
The guests immediately created two more chances to score, but shots by Denis Laptev and Pavel Savitsky did not reach the goal.
After that, the Greeks once again started attacking but did not create serious trouble for Belarus' goalie Sergei Chernik. In the second half, the hosts attacked more, but the result did not change.
Now, the team of Belarus' manager Alexander Khatskevich goes to Sofia, where they will take on Bulgaria on November 13 as part of the qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
After three rounds in the qualifying Group A, Bulgaria has 3 points, while Belarus are on 2 points. Ahead are the national teams of France and Sweden, who have 7 points each, while the Netherlands have 4 points. Luxembourg, with the sole point against Belarus, are last.
