Belarus defeat Serbia in 2018 European Men's Handball Championship qualification

The handball team of Belarus won their first victory in the 2018 European Handball Championship qualifying defeating the Serbian team away 36:27.

After the home defeat against the Romanians (23:26) at the start of the competition, manager Yuri Shevtsov's Belarus desperately needed points.

Belarusians coped with this task perfectly having shown a very confident performance against a strong opponent. Boris Pukhovsky became Belarus' top scorer with 8 points.

In three previous meetings against Serbia, Belarus suffered defeats. In another match of the second round, Romania's national team hosted Poland in Cluj to win 28:23 and top the standings.

Belarus is second in the table, followed by Serbia and Poland. The Poles, who were considered the main favorites of the quartet before the start, suffered a second defeat in a row. In the first round, they lost to Serbs in Gdansk 32:37.

Teams from places 1-2 will get a direct ticket to the Finals of the continental championship. They will be joined by the best third-placed team. Croatia will host the European Championship on 12-28 January 2018 and is thus not taking part in the qualification.
