Belarusian programmer creates prosthetic hand for his dad

A cup of tea in the morning shared with your son guarantees good mood for the whole day. 20 years ago Sergey could not think he would be able to hold a cup of tea, as he had to do everything with just one hand. But his son did something impossible.

Oleg Galtsev, inventor:
I saw a news report and found out they make bionic hands in Germany, but that was extremely expensive; an alternative did not exist in Belarus.

The well-known prosthetic device is very expensive and the patients often just wear a special glove to hide the injury.

Oleg managed to build his prototype in two years, a more sustainable and less expensive one. However, it is way easier in use.

Oleg Galtsev:
The prosthetic device is able to grab things and twist. Its signature are the sensing devices. It took us three days to print the prosthetic device from plastic.

According to Leonid, he was sure that his son’s invention is very handy and robust. Everyday exercises help to get used to it really fast.

Leonid Galtsev:
It allows me to hold a pen or a spoon.

Needless to say that a prosthetic device will never replace a hand, however, it makes some things easier.

Leonid Galtsev:
Some things are easier now – I can mow grass, hold a hot saucepan.

Now Oleg is planning to work on the improvement of the invention and the development of other limbs.

Oleg Galtsev:
We are going to experiment – to improve this device, build some other devices; it would be great to build a small prosthetic device for kids.

According to Oleg, these two years were not easy – there were ups and downs.

Leonid Galtsev:
I did not expect it could be possible at all; I am full of pride and gratitude.

Happiness of your closest relative is the best reward for the Belarusian inventor.
