EOC inspector: Minsk ready to host tournaments of the highest level

Sports facilities of Minsk are ready to host tournaments of the highest level. The statement was made at a meeting of the executive committee of the European Olympic Committees. It was held on October 20 at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, in anticipation of the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees. Delegates from 50 countries will start work today on October 21.

Belarus will deliver a number of significant initiatives. In particular the meeting will consider the possibility of holding in Minsk the II European Games. The first Games took place last year in Baku, demonstrating that the scale of this continental event comparable is to the Olympic Games.

During the work in Minsk, Olympic experts will assess the infrastructure created in Belarus.

Sergey Bubka, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine:
A few years ago, I was at the opening of the rowing canal in Brest, so I know that you have great infrastructure that allows people to engage in sport and bring up new high-level athletes.

Joseph Liba, chairman of the inspection commission on preparation for the European Olympic Youth Festival 2019:
I was in Minsk two years ago as part of an inspection commission. We visited all the facilities that will be used for the European Youth Olympic Festival. And even then, according to the results of the commission, we said that

Minsk is almost ready to host the festival. Today, the infrastructure is ready, moreover, there are many new objects that did not exist two years ago.

The sports officials will also discuss the sharp points. Doping and scandals around it. Europe needs to develop a consolidated position on this issue.

Victor Khotochkin, honorary vice-president of the Russian Olympic Committee:
There are different approaches to solving this problem. It can be camouflaged, but you can open it. Our mood is that we want to understand the root causes, find the roots of this problem in our own country. And create a model, an example for other Olympic committees.

Aldonis Vrublevskis, head of the National Olympic Committee of Latvia:
With envy do we look at many sports facilities in Belarus.

I think that Minsk would be ready to host the European Games and the Youth Games. I will vote for that.

The best young athlete will be awarded during the events in Minsk this week. Among the four candidates is one Belarusian.

Niels Nygaard, president of the National Olympic Committee of Denmark:
Everything looks very solid. Very good organization. You have great sports facilities. I was in Belarus during the IIHF World Championship 2014. I was impressed back then. Everything is beautiful and clean. I hope to get to know your country.

The logo of the 45th General Assembly will be a Belarusian cornflower. It has been presented during the preparations for the October 21 General Assembly.
