Should abortion be banned? It is the topic of the talk show What’s Going On on October 9.
Egor Khrustalev, host of the program:
As a new elected MP, have you received any instructions or have you had any talks related to the revision of the law?
Dmitry Shevtsov, deputy of the House of Representative of Belarus:
No, we haven’t received any suggestions. However, in 2013-2014, when we were working on this law, we received a lot of suggestions. I should mention that a part of these suggestions was taken into account and implemented. We introduced a medical consultation before abortion procedure and made the criteria stricter. Now we see that there are just three social factors when abortion is recommended. Which one of these three should we exclude? Let’s see. Could we forbid a woman to give birth after she was raped? Or Could we forbid to give birth if there’s risk for the mother’s health?
In general, we should have a comprehensive approach to this matter. We shouldn’t concentrate only on doctors. For instance, why do women do abortion? They do it because they are uneducated in the sexual sphere.
