Deputy Minister of Trade of Chile about Belarus-Chile cooperation

Chile plans to increase the turnover between Chile and Belarus by two times.

The delegation of businessmen from Chile were exploring the possibility of the cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union. The priority is to open markets to each other. Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile Andrés Rebolledo has answered questions of the program Week on the CTV Channel.

Belarus is actively developing relations with the South America. We have a lot of joint projects with Venezuela, Brazil and Ecuador. What do you think about political and economic cooperation between Belarus and Chile?

Andrés Rebolledo, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile:
We are very interested in Belarus, that’s why we organize the visit of the delegation of Chile. We want to develop our economic and trade relations. In the framework of this visit, we wanted to know how to do business in Belarus. In addition, we are visiting Russia, Armenia and Kazakhstan. We are interested in the further development of our political and economic cooperation.

There are discussions about the establishment of a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Chile. What is your opinion on that?

Andrés Rebolledo, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile:
The growth rate of trade has decreased in comparison with the past. It’s the same in every country of the world. The presence on foreign markets is very important for such countries as Belarus and Chile. We need to cooperate more actively to use new opportunities for the development of the trade and economic relations. During the visit, we had negotiations with the Eurasian Economic Union on the agreement concerning the establishment of the free trade zone. We hope we will succeed in this project.

Do you think Belarusian products might be interested for customers in Chile? Chile has a very developed mining industry. Belarus produces dump trucks. Is Chile interested in purchasing Belarusian dump trucks?

Andrés Rebolledo, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile:
Indeed, the turnover between Belarus and Chile is not large, but we have plans to increase it. Our economies are complementary. The mining industry and agriculture are the main spheres in Chile. We export a lot of products of these industries. At the same time, we need to purchase equipment and dump trucks to develop the industries. I hope that we’ll increase the purchase of Belarusian dump trucks in future. We need to purchase goods from each other to facilitate the development of the economy.

During the meeting in April, Chile offered to use commercial network to promote Belarusian goods on the market of Chile. Were there any suggestions from Belarus?

Andrés Rebolledo, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile:
Chile has 24 agreements with 75 countries on free trade zones. Thus, Chile could help Belarus to appear on the markets of the South America. Taking into account the similarities of our economies, we should think about joint projects and investment.
