“Reliable, comprehensive, mutually beneficial”: Results of Alexander Lukashenko’s visit to China

The territory of Belarus is 45 times less than the territory of China. The Chinese population is 145 bigger than the population of Belarus. The Belarusian GDP is also much less that one in China. However, from now on, such different countries like Belarus and China will be strategic partners.

Only three countries, the Great Britain, Russia and Pakistan, had such close relations with China. Now Belarus is among them. We have a very impressive company, don’t we? It’s time to establish a new union. However, it’s not clear how two enemies as Russia and England will coexist in such union.

Meanwhile, China is very successful in cooperating with each of these very important states.

The importance of the bilateral relations between Belarus and China was the main topic during the state visit of Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko.

I know that Belarus is located in the heart of Europe. For China, it is very important to find a reliable friend in the region.
I remember last year President Lukashenko came to our celebrations. It was on the news, now, with interest I also watched on TV his talks with Xi Jinping.

The meeting of Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping is a meeting of two friends. It is obvious even at a distance. The color of tie hints at mutual trust too. This word today sounds more than once.

Recently, Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping have met a couple of times a year. And it has become a tradition. In the language of diplomacy, this fact is very important.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
After your visit to Belarus in May 2015, we have worked very hard on the joint promotion of the initiatives we discussed in Minsk, and above all the economic belt of the Silk Road. During this period, we have actively carried out business contacts between our countries.

500 days ago, Xi Jinping landed in Minsk the tree Belarusian-Chinese friendship. Today is the time to check whether China and Belarus are on the same page.

Xi Jinping, the chairman of the Chinese People's Republic:
I am very glad to see that the agreements we reached are being effectively implemented. We are willing to work with you to engage in common planning of the further development of the bilateral relations to give them a new impetus for the benefit of our peoples.

The heads of state put their signatures under a historic document. From now on the two countries' relationship is characterized by four adjectives: trust, comprehensive, strategic and mutually beneficial.

The two leaders talked one-on-one for about an hour. And they came out to journalists in a good mood. Xi Jinping received from the President of Belarus the Order of peace and friendship, the only in the world.

Alexander Lukashenko then met with Chinese students at Peking University.

Alexander Lukashenko:
Visiting Minsk recently, last year, Xi Jinping visited the nodal points of the construction of this "Silk Road" in the direction of Europe. His name in Belarus is "The Great Stone". And he called it the "pearl" of the "Great Silk Road". On the way to Minsk, when we came back, he told me that no one offered in the world offered him such conditions. Now we see, he said, that Belarus is a reliable, honest and decent friend.
And later, one of the members of the Politburo, said that Xi Jinping can open his soul to only one person in the world - the President of Belarus. It pleased me!

Ruslan Drozd, representative of the Belarusian Potash Company in China:
Over the past few years, the Belarusian Potash Company has been able to significantly gain a foothold in the Chinese market of potassium. In 2015, we became the number one supplier to the Chinese market and supplied more than 2 million tons of potassium. This figure is very high, actually a record over the last 10 years.

The sides signed about 30 agreements. The two states now declare a new format of the economy. This is the transition from loan - when China funds projects - to investment relations.

Nikolai Snopkov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus:
Foreign direct investment from China in the past five years increased by 10 times. That is, forward movement is obvious. Therefore, this visit will be marked by transition from the credit and investment cooperation to actual direct investments. We were testing each other. We focused earlier on credit and investment cooperation. Time has come for businesses to interpenetrate.

Alexander Lukashenko:
We need to build an exemplary technological facility in the middle of Europe, so that other European countries see it and start cooperating with China. And at any cost we will build that high-tech park. And this project will be implemented.

Today the Belarusian-Chinese two-way road needs to be expanded. Alexander Lukashenko offers immediately to act more decisively. He invited the Chinese Premier to visit Belarus already in November.

Kiryl Rudy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in the People's Republic of China:
The sum of contracts - potential and real - is about $11 billion. It is important to implement all of them, so that it is really mutually beneficial. Exactly in the way the leaders agreed.
