Belarus, USA sign intergovernmental agreement for first time in 20 years

Belarus and the United States signed an intergovernmental agreement for the first time in 20 years. It concerns the protection and preservation of cultural values. At the signing ceremony, Belarus was represented by foreign minister Vladimir Makei.

Mr Makei is now in New York at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. It is this very platform that became the site of a series of bilateral talks.

The Belarus foreign minister met with his counterparts from Croatia, Eritrea, Germany, and with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The sides confirmed interest in developing cooperation in various fields.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry made a protocol photo of Mr Makei with US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.
