Alexander Lukashenko: teachers’ salary should increase by quarter

On September 1, Alexander Lukashenko demanded to increase teachers' salaries. The President said this during his visit to a special boarding school for children with hearing impairment. In the school, children are studying for 12 years instead of 11.

On the Day of Knowledge, Alexander Lukashenko visited this school. Afterwards, he admitted that he didn’t think that those children were “special”. Take, for instance, handicraft classes. The pupils at the age of 14-16 can already earn money during the summer, making clothes.

Of course, not any teacher could work with children with hearing impairment. The preparation of such teachers has recently started at some universities.

However, there is a problem that many employers refuse to give a job to a person with peculiarities. The President’s attention is drawn to this issue.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
You should investigate this issue, who is not employing them and why. Especially, when they are asking for people, they know that people are coming to them, and then they refuse to employ them. Let me know, who this brave people are.

Special children are especially kind and they are very goal-oriented, noticed the President.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
Today was the first time, when after thinking for a while, I discovered this. You are not disabled, not at all. You are the same as we are. You are just a bit different from us, but this difference is very tiny. Also, I want to say that for the teaching staff of the school you are studying at the moment, it is very important which way will you choose. I promise you that you won’t encounter any problems. We will investigate the issue concerning job places one more time, so that you will be able to find your place in life, so that you will be able to work and earn money for your children and yourself.

One more time the President brought up the topic concerning the status of teachers and their salaries.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
A school is a wonderful place for a person. Also, if we take into consideration the freedom of choice, a person can chose any sphere they he or she likes. The only thing is that they don’t have to get offended by a low salary. That’s why we need to increase teachers’ salaries by quarter at least. I’m sure that no one will leave schools. However, at first, we should clear the education system from these hanger-on people. There are tons of them, from people in the Ministry of Education to people working in schools. We shouldn’t act to the disadvantage of children.
