Information Minister: regional media can become points of growth in Belarus' media sphere

Regional media may become points of growth in the media sphere in Belarus. They are closer to the viewer and reader and can therefore more sharply react to life situations on the ground. The role of the media was discussed by top media and ideological officials of Belarus in Lida August 30.

The occasion was the airing of a local radio station and a technical solution that makes a city television station available to a wider TV audience.

Lilia Ananich, Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus:
Regional television, of course, occupies its own niche. They cover local events very quickly. Regional TV channels can better convey local concerns, current festivals and events.

Other topics of conversation in Lida were the role of the media, political parties and public associations in election campaigns, in particular the upcoming parliamentary vote, due in Belarus on 11 September 2016. Their right to help the candidate to campaign should be of a constructive character. After all, the parliament aims to generate initiatives and legislation aimed at the construction of the knowledge economy.

Igor Buzovsky, deputy head of the Presidential Administration:
The ability to build a professional conversation, including with candidates is vital, because people are very different. People come and ask uncomfortable questions and are not afraid to discuss something important. Maybe even not in a very constructive way but working with professionals on television he can show the society what kind of a candidate he or she is. This is all done in order for people to make the right choice.
