Belarus submits bid to host 2021 IIHF World Championships

Belarus has applied to host the Ice Hockey World Championship 2021.

"Yes, we have sent official documents to the International Ice Hockey Federation," said the secretary general of the Association "Ice Hockey Federation of the Republic of Belarus" (FHRB) Yaroslav Zavgorodny in an interview to the TV channel Belarus 5.

According to Zavgorodny, at the next semi-annual congress it will be known who will be Belarus' rivals in a bid to host the World Championship 2021.

"Even behind the scenes we know that Finland is also planning to apply for hosting this worlds. This is a very serious contender," he said.

However Mr Zavgorodny stressed that in case of failure Belarus intends to submit a bid to host the 2022 worlds. "We are confident that either in 2021 or in 2022 we will get the right to host that championship again," he concluded.

Belarus held the IIHF ice hockey world championship in 2014.
