Belarus ice hockey team wins Cup of Three Nations

The ice hockey team of Belarus won the Cup of Three Nations, which ended in Minsk.

Dave Lewis' team played two games and celebrated successes in both. At the start of the tournament Belarusians were stronger than France (5:2) and then dealt with Germany. The hosts Belarus were leading 2:1, but in the middle of the third period the German hockey players managed to even the score 2:2. Belarus needed less than a minute after the conceded goal to restore a one-point lead - 3:2. Alexander Pavlovich scored the decisive goal.

In the Cup of Three Nations, Belarus took first place, with Germany coming in second and France third.

For Belarus ice hockey players that was the last tournament and an important step in preparation for the Olympic qualification, which will take place at Minsk Arena from 1 to 4 September. 

In Group D, four teams will compete: Belarus, Slovenia, Denmark and Poland. Only the group winners will get the right to take part in the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

Team Belarus participated in three Winter Olympics (in Nagano in 1998, in Salt Lake City in 2002 and Vancouver in 2010). Belarus competed in four qualifying tournaments. In 1997 and 2001, Belarusians successfully completed the selection for the 1998 and 2002 Games. 

In 2005 and 2013 they took second places losing the right to play at the Olympics to Latvia and Slovenia, respectively.
