Questions of economy and the state of affairs in the banking sector have been reviewed at a meeting held by the Belarus President on 23 August. The Head of State met with the Prime Minister of Belarus, Andrei Kobyakov, and Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Pavel Kallaur.

In particular, Alexander Lukashenko was informed about the situation on the currency market, as well as on cooperation with the World Bank.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
I would like to hear out results of work in the past period of this year. On the situation in the currency market in this regard. And discuss our cooperation with international financial organizations. We must pay tribute to them; they largely meet our expectations, our targets that we ourselves once outlined. Therefore, we must do everything so that this cooperation continues. For us, it is a very profitable partnership.

During the meeting the Head of State was presented a draft decree that will provide citizens with subsidies for partial reimbursement of payment for utility services. For citizens this spending is more than 20% of the total income, and for people in rural areas it is 15%. The budget has funds to this end. According to the Government, it would take about $25 million. It is expected that about 400,000 families in Belarus will have this assistance.
