FC BATE Borisov of Belarus will face Astana from Kazakhstan in the Europa League qualification playoff, according to the results of the draw made in Swiss Nyon by the UEFA.
BATE have remained the only Belarusian club in European competitions this season. They initially started in the Champions League playoff but were stopped by Ireland’s Dundalk in the second leg. BATE won the first leg 1-0 but lost 0-3 in the second.
Now BATE will fight for a place in the Europa League group stage. The first match will take place in Kazakhstan on 18 August with the return leg to take place in Borisov on 25 August.
22 winners qualify for the UEFA Europa League draw, which takes place in Monaco on Friday 26 August. Also in that draw will be the 16 automatic entrants and the ten teams defeated in the UEFA Champions League play-offs.
Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine and Russia's Krasnodar have also learned their opponents.
