Polish Sejm delegation arrives in Minsk

A delegation of the Polish Sejm is on a visit in Minsk these days. This country is one of Belarus' main trading partners in Europe.

Last year, trade totaled almost $2 billion, with about 200 million of investment attracted to the economy of Belarus.

At a meeting with the Polish delegation in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, a proposal was made to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations and continue cooperation in various fields.

Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly:
There are a lot of untapped reserves in the field of mechanical engineering, wood processing, IT, pharmaceuticals. And here we need to work more actively. Including parliamentarians. In July 2016, we will host an OSCE General Parliamentary Assembly and also a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative. We have invited our Polish friends to also take part in these events.

Ryszard Terlecki, Vice-Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland:
I arrived in Minsk on a visit to again emphasize how important it is for the Republic of Poland to normalize relations with Belarus. We have behind a period of unused chances, which, we believe, has almost ended. Since the beginning of this year, we have increased our mutual activities very much: suffice it to mention a visit to Belarus of the minister of foreign affairs and heads of other Polish departments. And I think our relationships will develop.

Also on August 2, the Polish delegation held a meeting at the Council of the Republic. The parties discussed the activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation as well as ways to improve the contractual framework between the two countries. Separately, they stressed the need to develop contacts between the regions of Belarus and Poland.
