FC BATE defeat Dundalk in Champions League 3rd qualifying round first leg

On Tuesday, July 26 FC BATE took on Ireland's Dundalk in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. BATE took initiative from the beginning of the match and won 1:0.

The only goal of the match was scored after an Alexander Hleb pass. The veteran, who had just returned to BATE, made a delicious pass to Mikhail Gordeichuk, who converted from a difficult angle. The Irish side created only one dangerous episode, in the first half, but the goalie Sergei Veremko rescured the team with a stunning reaction save.

It is interesting that exactly one year ago, these rivals faced each other in the Champions League qualification. In 2015 manager Alexander Ermakovich's FC BATE also ousted Dundalk 2:1 at home and then drew an away game 0:0.

The return leg is due in a week in Ireland. BATE will need a win, a draw or a defeat by one goal to progress to the Champions League qualification playoff. If Dundalk wins 1:0 at home in regular time, the two-leg match will move into extra time and possibly penalties.
