Belarus to bid for 2021 IIHF World Championship

The Belarus Ice Hockey Federation will submit a bid to host the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Minsk. This decision was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of the federation.

Belarus plans to host the 2021 championship in Minsk at two arenas: Minsk Arena and Chizhovka Arena, the same venues that hosted the games of the 2014 tournament.

"The essential difference in this case is that Minsk already has all the necessary infrastructure in place. Moreover the previous World Championship has secured the image of Belarus has an ice hockey land, capable of seamlessly organizing and holding tournaments at the highest level," the Federation told media.

The Federation, however, understands that it will not be easy to win since Finland, a strong competitor, is also among the bidders.
