FC BATE has returned to Belarus after a successful UEFA Champions League 1game against SJK in Finland (2-2). The club from Borisov won 4-2 on aggregate and progressed to the third qualifying round where they take on Ireland's Dundalk.
Alexander Ermakovich, head coach of FC BATE (Borisov)
SJK did well coming from two behind. They fought to the end so I have only compliments to say to them.
We had enough opportunities to counter-attack when the opponent opened up some space behind. But, unfortunately, we did not use this space.
Belarusians seemed to have killed the intrigue in the match after Alexander Karnitsky and Alexei Rios goals made the aggregate score 4-0 in favor of BATE.
At this moment, when everything became clear, the visitors relaxed. SJK used this and replied with two goals to the delight of their fans.
By the way, for this Finnish club, both goals become their first ones in a European competition. That was also the first time the SJK had not lost in a European club tournament. So Seinäjoki can be satisfied with the return leg.
