Alexander Lukashenko disturbed by developments around Belarus

Belarus has no problems from the point of view of terrorist activity. July 18, Chairman of the Committee of State Security Valery Vakulchik reported to the President on the current situation in the country. The meeting addressed issues of countering terrorism.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
I will not hide: I cannot but be disturbed by the situation that is developing around Belarus. Thank God that we are able to hold back negative manifestations for now. Starting from "expression of will" and ending with all sorts of those wishing to make mess out of this country. We see it.
But what is happening around - in Ukraine, and the recent decisions of the North Atlantic Alliance, and in Turkey, we saw it. And today, in Yerevan, the Armenian issues. More recently in Kazakhstan. But what we do not see... Not everything is broadcast but our neighbors are in quite a serious situation. And at any cost, we should remain calm and preserve peace in our country. I would like to hear your evaluations from this point of view. You are the major organization responsible for it. Please.

Valery Vakulchik, chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
In general, the situation in the country, in spite of the challenges and threats, remains stable. This is primarily due to the activities of the authorities and law enforcement agencies. And, of course, the consciousness of our people.

The head of state was informed about the interaction of the KGB with the CIS special services in France and other Western European countries when it comes to counter-terrorism activities.

Valery Vakulchik, chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
Some people, who were in one way or another involved in terrorist activities, followed through the Republic of Belarus. Some stayed for a while here, on the territory of Belarus. Therefore, work against them was carried out together with our partners from other countries. The situation in our country is relatively quiet. We don't see any problems in terms of the terrorist activity of particular elements or organizations.

Today, during the report, the sides touched the most resonant criminal cases. The head of the State Security Committee reported to the President about the amount of damage in the case of the businessman Yuri Chizh. It is nearly 240 billion BYR (before redenomination).

The investigation in the criminal cases of Vladimir and Kazbek Yaprintsev and Alexander Arabyan has completed.

Valery Vakulchik, chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
The material is pending in court. In fact, about Kazbek and Arabyan, everything is quite clear. There are, however, many questions in respect of Vladimir Yaprintsev. He helped his son to solve problems, signed letters of guarantee from Triple company, without having the authority to do so.
The President was also briefed on the full compensation of damage, without taking into account the multiplicity, in the criminal case against Servolux officials. And the company Konsul. If you are curious, the money for these criminal cases has already gone to local budgets and these are hundreds of billions of rubles.

In addition, Valery Vakulchik described the course of the parliamentary election campaign in Belarus, outlined some of its features.

Valery Vakulchik, chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
We see sufficiently high activity of candidates when it comes to the collection of signatures, the organization of pickets. Electoral commissions are working as usual. At the same time, we have seen a relatively low level of interest of citizens of the Republic of Belarus to candidates who represent various opposition organizations. They have serious problems with the collection of signatures, given the low interest in their activities expressed by the citizens of Belarus.
