Belarus U20 to play at European Volleyball Championship after six-year break

The U20 volleyball team of Belarus will play in the finals of the European championship after a six-year break.

In Minsk Sports Palace, the third qualifying round for the continental championship ended with Belarus outplaying Denmark 3:1 (28:26, 25:21, 19:25, 25:21) and taking second place in Group I, which allows them to go to the European Championship.

The finals will be held in the Bulgarian cities of Varna and Plovdiv from 2 to 10 September 2016.

Standings Group I: 1. Czech Republic - 9 points / 3 matches. 2. Belarus - 5/3. 3. Denmark - 3/3. 4. Slovakia - 1/3.

The Czech team will also play in the finals. Two teams - Germany and Ukraine - have successfully qualified after games in Spain's Valladolid.

Belarusians will play in group 2 with Russia (the match will be held September 2), Turkey (September 3), Serbia (4 September), the Czech Republic (September 6), and Italy (September 7). France, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Germany and Ukraine play in group 1 (Plovdiv). The top two teams from each group will enter the semi-finals.

The men's U20 team of Belarus last took part in the European Championship finals in 2010, when the best teams of the continent gathered in Belarus' towns of Bobruisk and Mogilev. The best achievement of Belarus at this competition was sixth place in 2008, in the Czech Republic.
