President of Belarus meets with Czech Republic's foreign minister

Belarus and the Czech Republic will open a new chapter in relations. This matter was discussed June 30 at the meeting of President Alexander Lukashenko and the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic.

The Head of State emphasized the important role of that country in the definition of EU policies and hailed the Czech position regarding the more active involvement of Belarus in the implementation of EU projects. Almost 200 companies with Czech investments are now registered in Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
I have never considered either Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic or Slovakia some totally foreign states. We had a lot in common. I cannot say that everything was rosy, but most of it was good. We need to draw appropriate conclusions. I said it to lead you to the thought that we could use our strength to reverse the situation. And the current situation is characterized by us restoring good relations with European states, primarily between Belarus and the Czech Republic.

Lubomír Zaorálek, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic:
Thank you, Mr. President, for the reception. I am very glad that after the meetings with your minister in New York, Prague and Bratislava, I can be back here in Minsk. I have already told the minister today that it is time to start a new chapter in relations between the Czech Republic and Belarus.
