Minsk half marathon 2016 due on September 4

Belarus' Minister of Sport Alexander Shamko has become the first registered member of the Minsk Half Marathon 2016. He plans to run 5km, media report.

According to the chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovskiy, Minsk Half Marathon will take place on September 4, beginning at 11.00. Everyone will be able to register for marathons at a distance of 5km, 10km and 21km. Organizers expect 20 thousand running enthusiasts.

Participation in the half marathon will be paid: 5 km will cost BYN 7, while 10km and 21km races are priced at 18 euros.

People with disabilities, participants of Great Patriotic War, Afghanistan soldiers, pupils, educational institutions, students can register for free. 

Like last year, the half marathon in Minsk will have its own Dream Team, which will include well-known personalities from the world of sport, show business, heads of departments and large enterprises. The organizers said that this year the audience will see Olga Mazurenok, who won last year. In the summer of 2016, she will represent Belarus at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2015 half marathon in Minsk was attended by more than 16,000. People from 36 countries took part.  Minsk Half Marathon was awarded five stars - the maximum number the European Athletics Association Quality Road Race can award. The half marathon is claiming for the bronze status in the world marathon and half marathon ranking, which will later allow claiming the golden level.

The organizers of the Minsk Half Marathon 2016 are the Minsk City Executive Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and the Belarusian Federation of Track and Field.
