The Investigative Committee of Belarus has begun investigating the causes of emergency at the plant Polimir in Novopolotsk. Company documentation has been seized and a number of examinations appointed.
On Saturday afternoon June 18, the local emergencies department received a report of an explosion of a gas-air mixture. It took the rescuers almost two days to locate the fire. Up to 7 am June 20, work was underway to cool the hydrogen unit. Polyethylene production has been suspended.
At the moment, there is no threat to plant workers and local residents. No excess levels of harmful substances have been registered. The measurements are carried out continuously. The company is working to assess the damage and determine the possible date of resumption of production processes. No one was affected by the fire.
