Belarus basketball team into Rio Olympics 2016 finals

The Belarusian national basketball team won against opponents from the Republic of Korea and got the right to play at the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

The Belarusians celebrated the victory 56:39 (12:8, 15:8, 12:12, 17:11). Lindsey Harding scored 17 points and became the most productive in Belarus' squad.

At the qualifying Olympic tournament in Nantes Belarus national team won first place in Group C, defeating Nigeria (71:60) and losing narrowly to Korea (65:66). Then in the quarterfinals Belarus lost to China (70:84) but in the semi-final of the "consolation tournament" did not leave a chance to Argentina (84:44).

Twelve 12 basketball teams will be competing at the Rio Olympics: Brazil, the United States, Serbia, Canada, Australia, Senegal, Japan, France, China, Spain, Turkey and Belarus. At the first stage, the teams will be divided into two groups of six and then the four best teams will continue to fight for awards in the playoff. The Women's Basketball Olympics tournament 2016 starts on August 6 and will finish on August 20.

Belarus national team will play at the Olympics for the second time. In 2008, in Beijing, the team of Anatoly Buyalsky was ranked 6th.
