Day of Slavic Literature and Culture in Minsk: Religious procession and prayer

Belarus celebrates Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. It is marked in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who in the late 9th century created a system of Old Church Slavonic alphabet and language.

All Orthodox churches are holding festive worship today in memory of the Saints. Minsk hosted a big religious procession.

Believers divided into two columns that went to the meeting point at Niamiha from two Minsk's churches - the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral. The procession was followed by a prayer service.

This solemn ceremony is already 20 years old.

Minsk residents:
This is spiritual support of our lives, our people.

This was when a unified culture and one language started. At the present time, when there is discord between the states, such cultural and spiritual unity is one of the most important holidays.
