Belarus President: No other departments should influence work of Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee reported to the President on 4 May about the investigation the most resonant crimes. Alexander Lukashenko met with the head of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Noskevich, who has been in office only six months. But the President already appreciates him as a principled and honest professional.

During this time, the chairman of the Investigative Committee has initiated the optimization of the number of central control and rear units. He has approved a new standard structure of the department. The layoffs will not touch investigators.

The President asked Mr Noskevich to very carefully approach the optimization of the committee. Another strict requirement of the head of state: other departments should have no impact on the activities of the investigating authorities. The investigators must be guided only by the law in their work.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
This is your authority and my authority, and this is the benefit for the country. Some would like to influence you and some would like to even control the Committee. But I tell you once again that the Investigative Committee is the highest point. You are subject only to the President. And there must be no influence. Everything should be under the law. If a proposal was made by the KGB or the Interior Minister, good, we will study them. But there must be on influence. An investigator must be guided only by the law and on other bodies can intervene.

Ivan Noskevich reported to the President on the work to change the evaluation criteria of the Investigative Committee's work. Now work efficiency directly depends on public opinion.  The Head of State also asked Mr Noskevich about the investigation of a number of criminal cases, including the resonant ones involving officials of the utilities system.

Ivan Noskevich, chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
The head of state inquired about the results of the investigation of the criminal case against officials of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services. Six people are involved and we have completed the case. Three people were charged with negligence and three with abuse of power. Three people were accused of negligence were amnestied. The case in relation to the three others was referred to the prosecutor and will go to the court. The accused fully refunded damages amounting to BYR 861 million.
