Alexei Gross will represent Belarus at the International Arts Festival Slavonic Bazaar 2016. Here are the most interesting facts about the artist.
Alexei Gross (real name Alexei Shkrabo) was born in the town of Soligorsk, Belarus.
The singer won second place in the Belarusian selection for the international contest of young pop singers New Wave 2012. Also, he entered the top ten at the national selection for Eurovision Song Contest 2013.
Alexei started to play percussion instruments at music school in 1998. His teacher was Alexander Trofimovich, a member of Soligorsk Jazz Trio musical ensemble, which won the grand prize at the First Moscow International Jazz Festival.
Alexei’s début took place at the vocalists contest Muzychny Forum (Musical Forum) in Soligorsk in 2005. And though the singer got there occasionally by a quirk of fate and the jury’s opinion was not favorable, this was an incitement to Alexei to take up professional singing. It happened because of the composer and educator Yelena Atrashkevich who was a juror there. She noticed Alexei’s talent and suggested he enter the Minsk State Art College. By the way, Yelena Atrashkevich was named Minsk Region’s Person of the Year 2015.
Alexei inherited love for music from his father Alexander who played different musical instruments in a few musical groups. The musical atmosphere has always reigned in this family. Alexei’s younger brother Ilya plays the piano and is going to enter the Minsk State Art College as well.
