Belarusian flax for textile capital of Russia: Alexander Lukashenko meets with Ivanovo region governor

The increase in turnover and the supply of products with high added value. Alexander Lukashenko and governor of the Ivanovo region of Russia discussed the prospects of cooperation at a meeting on April 15.

The mutual trade turnover exceeded $70 million since the beginning of the year. This is almost the same as for the entire past year. Ivanovo region knows Belarusian flax, shoes, food, and wallpaper. The most promising directions are machinery and flax. The joint commercial enterprise Belarusian Flax is working in Ivanovo. The company Avtokran produces equipment on Belarusian chassis.

The delegation of the Russian region met with representatives of Bellegprom. According to the head of state, Belarus is also interested in the supply of agricultural machinery and construction of housing.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
There are a lot of similarities. And partly native to us, because linen is a culture that is depicted on the coat of arms. We are ready for serious cooperation with the Ivanovo region, and not only in terms of flax but also textiles, which is your developed area. Your visit is very timely. Everyone knows that last year our turnover reduced by 20%. But, fortunately, already during this period of the year we regained our losses. This is a good trend, and I think it should be preserved. We don't have any troubles in any other aspects of relations. We are one nation and one people. We are ready to cooperate. I would like our cooperation to lead to the production of goods with high added value. You know our capabilities.

Pavel Konkov, governor of the Ivanovo region of the Russian Federation:
Indeed, the Ivanovo region and enterprises of Belarus are tied by a long history of cooperation. Perhaps the most striking of them is, indeed, cranes Ivanovets. They are on MAZ-made chassis. And today tens of thousands of them continue to work at various construction sites. And I believe that we could return to this kind of cooperation.

In addition, the Belarus President shared his impressions of the working visit to Turkey, held the day before, during which Mr Lukashenko took part in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
Other than at such conferences, it is difficult to meet with 50-60 leaders and discuss road maps, in brief at least. Or check, for example how our agreements with Pakistan are being executed.  Of course, we are looking for some points of contact in order to first of all export of products. You know, I think our government are a bit lazy now. The same Libya was bombed and destroyed. But it is necessary to restore it. And the head of the Presidential Council, if am I not mistaken, was watching me all the time.  Maybe I have European appearance. Then he said: "Are you the President of Belarus?" I say: "Well, yes, I am the President of Belarus." And immediately he asked: "Can you come to us?" I said: "Why not?" And we agreed that he would come here. They have everything right now to rebuild that country.
