Eight European countries, after EU, lift sanctions against Belarus

Eight European countries outside the EU lifted sanctions from 170 Belarusian officials and three companies, said head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini. These are FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

The EU Council decided to lift the sanctions against Belarus on 15 February.

The official report stated that the Council appreciates the steps taken by Minsk over the last two years to improve relations with the European Union.

At the same time, Brussels and Minsk have established a coordination group to discuss further cooperation. Its first meeting took place in Belgium, 6 and 7 April.
