Edward Woyniłłowicz beatification begins in Minsk April 10

The beatification of Edward Woyniłłowicz, founder of the Church of St. Simon and Helen, has officially started in Minsk. The ceremony is being held at the Red Church of Minsk. Taking part in it is Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz.

Beatification is declaration by the Pope that a dead person is in a state of bliss, constituting a step toward canonization and permitting public veneration.

Woyniłłowicz 100 years ago realized the need to develop inter-Christian and inter-religious dialogue. He built not only the Roman Catholic Church but also helped build Orthodox churches, synagogues and mosques.

According to Metropolitan Kondrusiewicz, the beatification of Woyniłłowicz is very important for the country.

Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, Metropolitan of Minsk-Mogilev Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church of the Republic of Belarus:
For the Catholic Church in Belarus, this is a very important date. A significant date, I would say. This is because it is the first time the beatification process has begun on the territory of Belarus. The process related to our countryman. Moreover, this man was not a priest but a social man and father who left his mark on this earth.
