New press center of Russian International News Agency opens in Minsk

Belarus is taking a new course on media integration. A new press center of the Russian international news agency opened in the Belarusian capital on April 7. The first video press conference for journalists between Minsk and Moscow was held. Both Belarusian and Russian wordsmiths could ask questions.

The opening ceremony was timed to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the first agreement on strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia.

Dmitry Kiselyov, director general of an international news agency (Russia):
This is our joint project because the vast majority of our journalists here are Belarusians. Maybe we will open a joint radio station; we discussed this topic with the Minister of Information Mrs Liliya Ananich. Let's see how it will develop. In any case, we were inspired by the phrase "you still have room to grow."

Alexander Surikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus:
We look forward to close cooperation with Belarusian media, because this is the first project of this kind involving Russian presence here. In principle, we have a cooperation agreement between the two ministries on this topic. We do interact and we have even agreed on the single information space.
