Belarus in sporting events: 21-27 March 2016

The national football team of Belarus have gathered for the first time since the beginning of 2016. Friday's friendly match against the Armenians in Yerevan ended in a goalless draw. Belarus will take on Montenegro in Podgorica March 29.

The U21 team of Belarus last weekend also played a friendly match. The younger generation has gone on a visit to the western neighbors to test their strength. However, the test showed that young footballers from Poland are stronger than their counterparts from Belarus, 3-0.

The club Vive Kielce knocked BGK Meshkov of Brest out of the handball champions league. In the second leg of the last 16 finals the Brest club also lost. This time the difference was only three points, not five. But actually it does not change anything since Vive sails into the quarterfinals.

In the EHF Cup Belarus also lost its representative. SKA Minsk lost to French Saint-Raphael (31:33) and did not qualify for the knockout round. Moreover, the guys of the coach Spartak Miranovich finished in last place in their group.

Victoria Azarenka is fighting for a second consecutive WTA title, this time in Miami. In round 4 Vika took on Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza and won in a hard battle with two tiebreaks, 7:6 (8:6), 7:6 (7:4). In round three, the Belarusian ousted Magda Linnete of Poland, 6:3, 6:0.

Olga Govortsova and Alexandra Sasnovich in the same tournament were knocked out from the first round.

In the men's doubles we continue to cheer for Max Mirnyi. Paired with Filipino Treat Huey he is getting ready to play in the quarterfinals. He will take on John Isner/Nicholas Monroe.

Tsmoki Minsk on Sunday acted as patrons. The team of Igor Grischuk gave the club Vita-Tbilisi their first victory in the VTB United League season. The representative of Georgia had lost 26 consecutive matches before that. This time the Georgians won 81:80. Now Tsmoki, who earlier were in the top 8, are in 12th place. In early April, they will take on the regular championship leaders, and so we cannot hope for easy points in those games.
