CIS Armed Forces to get joint communications system

The Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be linked by a joint communications system. A draft of the relevant agreement was discussed today in Minsk at a meeting of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CIS member states.

Also under discussion were a number of matters related to the expansion of military cooperation in the CIS.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation:
To counter modern challenges and threats we need to consolidate our efforts in the military field and prevent the spread of the activities of radical terrorist organizations in CIS countries.

Oleg Belokonev, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus:
The decisions adopted at today's meeting will contribute to the improvement of the system of multilateral military cooperation in the CIS format.
