Minsk then and now: what famous people think about city

Minsk was first mentioned in The Chronicle on March 3, 1067, in the narrative of the battle on Nemiga. And now, the capital of Belarus is really a world-famous city, with its popularity growing.

Peter von Balloos, tourist (Switzerland):
Yes, I'm a Prince, but I lost my castle somewhere in Switzerland. However, I found my own castle in Belarus. They are all here!

Alexander Moskalenko, the head coach of the Junior Biathlon National Team (Ukraine):
Minsk now is acting as a peacemaker. And your President also.

Ornella Muti, actress (Italy):
I always wanted to visit your country, and now I'm proud to be here.

Where Nemiga flows into the Svisloch, glorious and ancient Mensk was founded. But since the 20th century, part of the Nemiga river flows inside an old, but quite spacious collector.

It is the place, where 949 years ago a fierce battle on the Nemiga took place. After that, Minsk was completely destroyed.

Alexander Akentev, the chief architect of UE Minskgrado:
Until recent times, Minsk was developing as a small county town. Only in the 20th-century, it received the status of the capital of the state. And the fate of the city is unique.

Minsk was founded at the intersection of major trade routes and always remained an important strategic point. Minsk is known as an integration center.

The summits of the CIS and the Eurasian Economic Union were held here. Forbes recognized the Belarusian capital the best among cities of the former Soviet Union in terms of the comfort of doing business.

Liu Yi, Deputy head of China Machinery Engineering Corporation representative office in the Republic of Belarus:
I arrived in Minsk to study, as far as I remember, it was back in 2004.

Today Mr. Liu is the Deputy head of the representative office of China Machinery Engineering Corporation in Belarus.

Liu Yi, Deputy head of China Machinery Engineering Corporation representative office in the Republic of Belarus:
A lot of parks have appeared over the last few years. Many places were reconstructed.

The Ambassador of Ecuador in our country is attracted by the architecture of the Belarusian capital.

Carlos Larrea Davila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ecuador to the Republic of Belarus:
Today, the streets of Minsk are very similar to the streets of Madrid or to the most famous and iconic places in Rome. I feel very comfortable here.

Carlos Larrea is one of the sportiest representatives of the diplomatic corps. And he regrets that he took the post after 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship, which was held in Minsk. It was recognized the best ever in the history of ice hockey worlds.

Carlos Larrea Davila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ecuador to the Republic of Belarus:
We want our athletes to come in Minsk to train. The level of the training centers is high here.

Minsk is sporty! Championships of different levels are held in the Belarus capital: in speed skating, futsal, gymnastics and many more.

Branko Mirkovic, player of basketball club Tsmoki (Slovakia):
Our Minsk Arena is very beautiful and big. It is one of the best arenas in the VTB United League.

The Slovakian basketball player said to journalists that Minsk looks like New York for him. However, the athlete has never been in the Big Apple. But now he is not going to leave Minsk anyway.

Branko Mirkovic, player of basketball club Tsmoki (Slovakia):
The eldest child goes to a kindergarten. I asked him where he feels better. He answered ‘here, in Belarus’.

8-month-old daughter of Mr. Liu can be called a citizen of Minsk too.

Liu Yi, Deputy head of China Machinery Engineering Corporation representative office in the Republic of Belarus:
The child and wife are healthy. During her pregnancy, we ate Belarusian food and breathed Belarusian fresh air. She loves Belarusian dairy products.

Minsk is healthy! The WHO European conference has been recently held here. For several days, the Belarusian capital turned into a discussion platform with an eye to 2020.

Dozens of meetings on the settlement of the military conflict in Ukraine are held here. Everyone remembers the historic summit of the Normandy Four in February 2015.

Minsk is a cultural capital. There are many exhibitions featuring works by recognized painters such as Van Gogh, Goya, Picasso, and Michelangelo. At the Town Hall, you can attend classical music and jazz concerts. Listapad, the famous Belarusian Film Festival, also “lives” here.

Gerard Depardieu, actor, Director:
Here I see how the state is caring about nature and earth. It is comfortable for people to live here.

Pierre Richard, actor (France):
To be honest, I’ve already forgotten Minsk. But today, traveling from the airport to the city, I remembered how much I had liked Minsk.

The Belarusian capital is 80 years older than Moscow, 134 years older than Riga. It would seem like a little flower on the geographical map, but actually, it has its own political and cultural history.
