Belarus to stop electrical energy import starting from 2018

According to the announcement of Vladimir Potupchik, the Minister of Energy, Belarus will stop importing electrical energy starting from 2018.

The opening of the first reactor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and a large-scale modernization of the energy sector will allow Belarus to meet its domestic needs. Thus, the production of energy in Belarus appears to be more beneficial than importing it. Moreover, due to the establishment of the common energy market of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarus will be able to export electrical energy.
