Belarus in sporting events: 15-21 February review

There were some major sporting events involving Belarus' teams on February 15-21, 2016.

Alexander Buikevich finished third at Fencing World Cup. The competition called Wolodyjowski Saber Fencing Tournament was held in Warsaw. In the semifinal, the Belarusian saber fencer lost to the winner Bongil Gu of Korea - 10:15.

Belarus Athletics Indoor Championship took place in Mogilev. One of the best Belarusian athletes Alina Talai participated in the competition. Alina won gold in her best discipline 60 metres hurdles with a result of 7.97 seconds. This competition became a preparation stage to the IAAF World Indoor Championship in Portland.

The handball club SKA Minsk played its second match in the group stage of the EHF Cup. The team of the coach Spartak Mironovich played an away match in France where it lost to Saint-Raphael – 29:31. In two games, the club gained 2 points. There are still four matches ahead.

Another Belarusian handball club got through to the Final 4 of SEHA League. HC Meshkov Brest achieved a victory over Spartak - 35:28. In the Final 4, the Brest players are to meet with Vardar, Veszprem and Zagreb.

The basketball club Tsmoki Minsk is losing its chances to get into VTB United League play-off. The Dragons failed to win the latest match. In Volgograd, the Belarusian club lost to Krasny Oktyabr - 80:96. Now Tsmoki ranks 11th in the tournament table.

Dinamo Minsk has finished its participation in the regular KHL championship. This week the Belarusian The Bisons have played two home games but these results were not important anymore. The team headed by Andrey Kovalev failed to enter the play-off. At Minsk-Arena, The Bison did its best to please their fans and finish the season with a victory. Dinamo was beaten by Spartak 2:5 in the first game. But in the second one, the club managed to defeat Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in shootouts 3:2.
