Belarus parliament to consider new military doctrine bill in spring session

The Belarusian parliament will consider a bill on the approval of a new military doctrine in the spring session. For the document to be adopted, two thirds of deputies of the House of Representatives must vote for it.

The Belarusian military doctrine takes into account the military-political situation in the world, new methods of warfare. It is defensive in nature and is aimed at the modernization of the military-industrial complex.

Alexander Mezhuyev, member of the standing commission on national security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus:
The main differences from the previous version are the basic terms and their definitions: what is a "large-scale war", "local war", "illegal armed formation", and so on. The tenth chapter has also been added. This is the defense of the economic sector and military-technical cooperation. This bill is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the national security concept, international treaties and international law.
Taking into account the changes in the military-political situation in the world, in the European region, in connection with the occurrence of a source of tension in the neighboring Ukraine, as well as the growth of terrorist organizations and extremist organizations, the draft finds its practical implementation in both peacetime and when military threat increases.

Another new military doctrine will be adopted in the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The previous version of this document is dated 2001. It will also be drawn up on the basis of the geopolitical situation in the world.
