Experts from 'Normandy 4' countries gather in Minsk February 11, 2016

Experts are discussing possible ways out of the Ukraine crisis.  And although the meeting is informal its results will help to find new ways to address the issue.

For the normalization of the situation in Ukraine, all parties must make every effort. The resolution of the conflict in a civilized manner shows the stability of the entire European region to modern challenges and threats.

A year after the Normandy 4 negotiations in Minsk, the situation in Ukraine remains difficult. But the level of security in the country increased. In the Donetsk region, there have stopped large-scale attacks. The Minsk format of negotiations is still the only possible one in present-day conditions.

Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus:
The Minsk format has justified itself. If all stakeholders had implemented the agreements that were reached last year within the framework of the Minsk format, I am convinced that the conflict in Ukraine would have stopped. We could extend the format easily if it contributed to the early achievement of peace in Ukraine.

Martin Sajdik, Representative of the OSCE Chairman in the tripartite contact group on Ukraine:
We are working very tough. The political subgroup met more than 30 times. In the end, the political decisions should be taken.

Exactly one year ago, a 16-hour negotiation marathon of the leaders of the Normandy four started in Minsk. They came to a ceasefire agreement. The sides signed a complex of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. World leaders who act as intermediaries in the conflict settlement still say that there is no alternative to the Minsk process.
