Security key topic at Minsk meeting to settle Ukraine crisis

Security has become a key theme at the meeting of working subgroups to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. On February 10, in Minsk, the OSCE Special Representative Martin Sajdik called on the parties to observe the ceasefire.

The withdrawal of heavy weapons still remains an open question, as well as mine clearance. The shelling has become the main cause of unresolved economic and humanitarian problems.

Martin Sajdik, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman in tripartite contact group in Ukraine:
Today I learned the sad news that an anti-tank mine exploded on a minibus, which caused the death of civilians. This tragedy underscores the urgency of mine clearance in the conflict zone and the need for further action, which were discussed today, including the identification and mapping of certain areas of mine action. We are very grateful to Belarus for their hospitality and for the opportunity to meet here. And we hope that we will thus be able to continue work here.
