Qatar interested in cooperation with Belarus in winter sports development

Qatar is interested in cooperation with Belarus in the development of winter sports, said Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee at a meeting with the chairman of the presidential sports club of Belarus.

In recent years, sports contacts between the countries of the Middle East have come to life and the state is interested in the experience of Belarus. A Belarusian delegation took part in the opening ceremony of the Gulf Cup Ice Hockey. After that the parties discussed steps towards mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of sports and methodical work and infrastructure.

Pavel Egorov, assistant chairman of the President's Sports Club:
Representatives of the Persian Gulf are primarily interested in coaching and training of the teaching staff, conducting training camps, preparation of athletes and, of course, the organization of sports events. The first step in the development of our relationship is that we, through the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus, have sent a team of six refs for the first Gulf Hockey Cup in the country. During the first four days of the competition organizers said that our referees deserve the best marks.

Qatar in recent years has went to the prominent role in world sports. In 2015, the shores of the Persian Gulf hosted the handball world championship. In 2019, Qatar hosts the athletics world championship and then in 2022, it will host another major sporting event, the FIFA World Cup.
