The Belarusian Football Federation (ABFF) will support the candidature of the FIFA general secretary Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Sergei Safaryan told media.
Mr Safaryan noted that since the beginning of the scandalous events, with the removal of the heads of FIFA and UEFA Belarus supported Michel Platini, but after the Frenchman was forced to withdraw his candidacy, the country decided to vote in favor of Infantino, who has already presented his program.
Besides him, running for FIFA president are the head of the Asian Football Confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Prince of Jordan Ali Bin Al-Hussein, former Minister of Housing of South Africa Tokyo Sexwale and former Deputy General Secretary of FIFA, France's Jerome Champagne. The election of the FIFA head are due on 26 February.
Belarusian football championship
Speaking about the upcoming football season in Belarus Sergei Safaryan said that he is waiting for higher intrigue in the championship when it comes to the top three. With regard to the relationship of fans and law enforcement agencies, a lot of steps have been made recently.
In particular, the Federation met with police to discuss security issues during football matches. The same issues were raised at the meeting of representatives of the football federation and fan movements. Federation Chairman Sergei Rumas is conducting a dialogue with the heads of regional police departments. It is necessary that all these efforts lead to mutual respect from all parties.
Referring to the licensing process of the Highest League clubs, Sergei Safaryan stressed that none of the leadership of the Football Federation is going to lobby for the interests of any team. Everything is decided by the licensing committee and the executive committee of the ABFF, be it grands like FC BATE and Dinamo Minsk or debutants FC Krumkachy.
The new season will traditionally open with a match for the Super Cup, which is scheduled for March 13 at the stadium of FC Minsk.
