Belarusian officials give New Year gifts to orphans

Officers of the State Control Committee have visited the Zhdanovichi orphanage as part of the nationwide campaign Our Children on December 24.

Now this facility is home to 30 children with peculiarities of psycho-physical development. Generally these are small children left without parental care.

In honor of the holiday the kids have prepared a colorful New Year's performance with songs, recitals and traditional Christmas dances.

The children were given sweets and a TV set.

Leonid Anfimov, Chairman of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
This is a necessary and very important element of public policy aimed at protecting children and mothers. Especially when we are talking about children deprived of parental warmth, communication with parents. These kids are waiting for us, waiting sincerely, selflessly, as a miracle.
